Tony has always had a passion for Tea. He has travelled far and wide learning not only about Tea production, tasting and blending, but also discovering and learning Tea Cultures and Ceremonies from around the world. Specifically, ChaDao -The way of tea.
He is trained in GongFuCha, the original form of Tea Ceremony, by the late Lama Rinpoche Tai-Yun Gyastsu, Master of ChaDao and personal tea master to HH the 14th Dalai Lama. Since his teacher’s passing Tony -with the ordination name of Tenzin-Tai has studied Buddhism and ChaDao becoming the custodian of the late Master’s titles and honours. A duty which has lead him to receiving the title of Venerable Master of ChaDao.
In 2010, his skills as a Master Tea Blender were recognised with a National Gold True taste Award for his Earl Grey tea blends. Since then he has retuned to tea designer blending and also focused on the mindfulness which can be created with tea.
Buddhist philosophy comes from the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni, or Siddhārtha Gautama, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded nearly 3,000 years ago. Although some of the principles of Buddhism come from faith and ethical system dating back much further.
He was a teacher, who taught us that life is suffering, and the cycles of rebirth are suffering, but there is a way to liberate oneself from suffering through a path of compassionate thought and behaviour, achieving enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings.
ChaDao, is simply an extraordinary extension of this thought, focusing on the ability to find happiness and enlightenment in everyday situations. Forming bonds of friendship as a way of achieving peace and inclusive thought.
Tony is currently training a new generation of Tea Masters from around the world to be able to both perform tea ceremonies and also facilitate dialogues for peace and friendship. He currently fuses his unique approach to Human Rights and Tea by working to reduce conflict by encouraging shared experience and friendship.
